LIVE BLOG: Team Daybreak’s 250 miles challenge

This February to celebrate 25 years, #TeamDaybreak is walking, running, swimming or riding 250 miles – the distance between the communities that we work with!

Our teams live and work across the South. We will be pooling our mileage throughout the month and tracking our progress. Starting in Eastleigh, where our Head Office’s are, we will be travelling the distance to Portsmouth, Bromley, Hackney, Reading, Wiltshire and Dorset. Aiming to complete 250 miles in February, we also hope to get together as small groups using the opportunity to connect through nature in our local communities.

Follow along here on our live blog, and our social media. We plan on sharing a little about our adventures, and our work in the communities that we will be virtually walking, running, or riding through.

All money raised will help us enable families to come together with their support networks and problem-solve to create safer, more stable homes.

You can donate online as part of our 25 for 25 campaign.

UPDATES

04.02.2025: We have clocked 17 miles towards our total, and raised £189 pounds - in touch distance of our target already! Thank you to all those who’ve donated.

Claire, our Director of Services, took a sunrise beach walk with her dog Ted. Charlotte, from our Programme Manager team, clocked a 3 mile and a 1.5 mile effort, once with her dog Obie. Debbie, our CEO, submitted a 1.6 mile walk over the weekend - and Andy, our Finance Manager, walked an impressive 8 miles from our current Head Offices in Eastleigh, to our old offices in Colden Common and back.

06.02.2025: We’ve lept ahead, and through our first pitstop of Portsmouth. We now sit at 45 miles, and the team have really put the effort in with indoor bike rides (Michaela), lunch time stepping (Hannah and Paula), and even going the long way round to the supermarket (Andy). We are also in touching distance of our fundraising target already - £219. Can you help us hit £250? Next pitstop awaits: Bromley.

10.02.205: We’ve almost hit the halfway mark, passing both our next two pitstops over the weekend - Bromley & Hackney. Andy walked to a garden centre to enjoy a second breakfast, Debbie took a 7 mile walk around London’s sights whilst visiting at the weekend, Jess had a wet and muddy forest walk, schools runs were enjoyed, and Michaela enjoyed her first ever ParkRun as part of her aim to cover all 250 miles by herself! We also hit the £250 mark in our fundraising! Can we double it?

13.02.2025: We are stepping ahead, and have hit 175 miles - from cycling in-between exercise classes, and capturing the first signs of Spring - we are getting close to our first target. Shall we try and double it? Stay tuned!

18.02.2025: From icy walks on Southampton Common, sea air in Southsea and Dorset, and exploring new areas in Cambridge - together with some serious mileage on the bike indoors and outdoors - we’ve only gone and hit our 250 mile target, and counting! We are now heading back to our Head Office in Eastleigh and aiming for 500-miles. We would love to double our fundraising target too. First stop: £300. Can you help us get there?
